Mavundla, who was first nominated with Imbube group, Inkanyezi Zezulu in 2011, has been penciled in for nomination under SATMA’s Best Newcomer and Best Video categories.
The Tsholotsho-born singer has also become a common feature on South African vernacular radio station, Ukhozi FM, and the 1KZN television channel, since the release of his debut solo album earlier this year.
“I am very grateful for the support I have received from the people of both Zimbabwe and South Africa who have supported me since the release of my album,” said Mavundla. “People have been buying my album and giving me a lot of encouragement, while I have also been invited to a number of shows in Johannesburg and Durban. Radio DJs have also been playing my songs, something that is very rare for outsiders.”
Zinjaziyamluma (32), who featured popular South African Maskandi singer, Bonakele, in his album, also revealed that his much-awaited DVD would be out by the end of September.
Inkanyezi Zezulu wrote history when they landed a recording deal with a South African company and then came second in the SATMAs.
Zinjaziyamluma’s most popular tracks include Kobandayo, Amakhosi, Umbonaphi, Abasakazi, Usizi and Nkosiyam.
