The criticism follows appeals by President Robert Mugabe to bring Zulu to order following a recent public spate in which the Zimbabwean leader describer her as “an idiotic street woman.”
“The Presidency has noted with great concern, recent unfortunate statements made on the situation in Zimbabwe, which have been attributed to a member of the technical team supporting the Facilitator, President Jacob Zuma,” Mac Maharaj, Zuma’s spokesman, said in a statement on Sunday.
“A number of statements have been made during the facilitation process which have been unauthorised and which are regrettable and unfortunate. Some of the utterances have also been inaccurate.”
Zulu, the International Relations Advisor to President Zuma, is part of a team that also includes Maharaj and Charles Nqakula, the SA High Commissioner to Mozambique.
“The technical team supports the Facilitator and cannot impose its views on Zimbabwe nor make public pronouncements. Only President Zuma has the mandate to speak on Zimbabwe on behalf of SADC on facilitation issues,” Maharaj stated.
He said South Africa remained fully committed to the “warm” historical relations with Zimbabwe and wished the country well as it prepared for the elections scheduled for July 31.
Meanwhile, Maharaj dismissed any telephone conversation between Presidents Mugabe and Zuma during which Zulu’s stance was reportedly discussed.
“The Presidency wishes to correct in particular the reports this weekend that President Zuma telephoned President Robert Mugabe to express his unhappiness about preparations for the Zimbabwean elections. No such telephone call has been made. The report is incorrect.”

He said South Africa remained fully committed to the “warm†historical relations with Zimbabwe and wished the country well as it prepared for the elections scheduled for July 31. this statement by mr jacob zuma displays a flagrant miscarriage of justice on his part as a mediator in varigated ways. one saying he wants to maintains warm relations with zimbabwe because the statement by one of his team angered mgabe is to assume that the old and frail bob is cosimic representation of zimbabwe. even more so zuma seems to be very misguided of his role as a mediator, his role is not to see if good relations with zimbabwe are mantained but to see justice done on job as amediator. the cardinal point his stagnant and sterile stanza of mr zuma lies in the fear of the death of zimbabwe’s revolutionary party zanu pf. he thinks it will as well cast a spell on his revolutionary anc as well. oooh God help the whole issue is all based on the need for free and fair election instead of partisan genetic relations. ifzuma fears their so called relations will be injured please let him admit his failure in time.
