28 Zim bodies unclaimed in SA

A human rights group has reported that many Zimbabwean bodies are in South African mortuaries because relatives of the deceased could not afford transportation costs.

Azaria Dube Nduna, coordinator of Zimbabwean Diaspora non-governmental organisation, appealed to readers of The Zimbabwean earlier this year to assist with the repatriation of Paidamoyo Chikate, but failed to get the necessary support.

“According to our recent research, about 28 Zimbabwean bodies still lie stranded in local government mortuaries, while there are also a number in private mortuaries.

“All these bodies need to be repatriated, but relatives and friends cannot raise the required funds. Our government and the Zimbabwean Consulate have failed to assist us and we need help.”
