Best of the Best-Simon Sibanda

Former Highlanders and national junior team right back, Simon Sibanda played a game that belied his pint-sized body, giving even the biggest of players a torrid time with his skills in the black and white colours of Tshilamoya in the 1990s.

Sibanda believes the 10 years he spent with the Bulawayo giants were the best in his life and showed his loyalty to the former league champions.

My Best Club

I have three. Barcelona stole my heart with the way the assembly their squad and play entertaining football with their high technique of passing. Locally, it is Highlanders and Dynamos. They are perennial rivals and play a different kind of football, but when it comes to winning crucial games, they are the best in the land. Whenever these two giants meet, a lot is at stake and no-one can tell who will win.

My Best Coach

Former Highlanders, Eagles and Dream Team midfield maestro, Rahman Gumbo, who to me is the best in the country right now. His coaching abilities are out of this world. He was a great tactician, disciplinarian and only wanted the best results.

My Best Stadium

Barbourfields Stadium is the best. I really enjoyed each game I played there.

My Best Ever Zim Player

It is former Highlanders and national team captain, Thulani “Biya” Ncube, with whom I formed a solid combination in the Bosso rearguard. We were as strong as a rock and our defence was always unbreakable. Many strikers had sleepless nights whenever they were set to play against us.

My Best Highlanders 11

Amon Chimbalanga, Simon Sibanda, Gift Lunga Jnr, Dazzy Kapenya, Thulani Ncube, Bekithemba Ndlovu, Alexander Phiri, Sizabantu Khoza, Zenzo Moyo, Thabani Masawi, Blessing Gumiso. Coach: Rahman Gumbo and team manager, Ernest Maphepha-Sibanda.
