Billiat could go for a song

Zimbabwe Warriors star midfielder, Khama Billiat, could have become the most expensive player in the Absa Premiership, after Mamelodi Sundowns are said to have reportedly agreed to pay R9 million for him.

The tear-away midfielder, who has been on the books of Ajax Cape Town for two seasons, recently went on a four-day trial stint in Russia, but with seemingly no follow-up from Europe, the “Urban Warriors” have agreed to sell him to the Pretoria-based side.

The deal was seemingly still way off finalization at the beginning of the weekend, as the Zimbabwean was said to be against the move to Sundowns, who opened personal negotiations with him early this week.

Billiat could have become a Sundowns player about two weeks ago, but reportedly developed second thoughts after a chat with some of his teammates, who have been to the five-time league champions and seen the negatives of moving there.

The 22-year-old flew up to Johannesburg over the weekend to meet with Sundowns, but no personal terms had been agreed early this week, where the money is tempting, but the prospects of playing regularly uncertain.

Orlando Pirates were also in the race to sign the player, but Ajax are for a move to Sundowns who have a much bigger deal and that reportedly included either striker Eleazar Rodgers or defender Clayton Daniels moving to Cape Town.
