Chombo petitions ZEC

Marian Chombo, who lost to her former husband Ignatius Chombo in the recent election, has petitioned the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission over irregularities during the polls.

Marian intended to contest on a Zanu (PF) ticket but was beaten by her former husband during the party’s primaries. She proceeded to run as an independent candidate but insisted that she still belonged to Zanu (PF).

According to the petition dated August 5, 2013, Marian Chombo claimed the pre-election period was marred by violence in Zvimba North.

‘’Several houses were burnt in politically motivated incidents,’’ says the document.

The petition was submitted to the Mashonaland West ZEC provincial offices under which Zvimba falls.

It names Zanu (PF) officials who were presiding officers during the controversial elections.

She added that voting was never secret as voters were asked to reveal their serial numbers to Zanu (PF) information centres established on voting day.

Marian Chombo would not comment on the petition when contacted for comment.
