Interested parties including aspiring candidates, observers and supporters had a night vigil waiting for results, whose counting began at 7 pm, soon after the cut off time for voting.
Last night, the presiding officers in and around the town had to receive a directive from an unidentified ''high office'' individual for them to avail information regarding how many people had cast their vote at their respective polling centres.
The Zimbabwean established that the presiding officer at the command centre gave a list of at least 24 presiding officers for Zengeza East constituency to an unidentified ZEC official because the command centre had not received any information indicating how many people had voted and their gender from most polling centres by midnight yesterday.
One presiding officer raised concern that the centres had availed information giving the statistics to police officers soon after the close of voting, who in turn had taken that information to their superiors.
"We have been providing statistics but it was not taken to the ZEC officials. Instead, the officers have been taking it to their superiors for their records,"said one presiding officer, clearly suprised that the command centre had not received statistics from his polling station.
