Jera injury scare

Veteran long distance runner Chrispen Jera is racing against time to compete this year, following a recent knee injury.

Jera last featured in the Comrades Marathon in April this year, where he did not perform that well. “My knee is burning and I need prayers to heal. Since the Comrades Marathon, I have not participated in any other race,” said Jera. “I had hoped to win some medals this year, but it will be a bit difficult to do that now, but I will keep fighting to regain my fitness. I have been trying to nurse this injury, but for now, I am failing to even jog. This is a blow to my career as I am also racing against age.”

Jera has lambasted the Zimbabwe Athletics mother body for failing the sport. “Our administrators seem to know nothing about athletics and we need better people to take over if we are to save the sport. We also need a vibrant marketing manager to source sponsorship and organise international trips to boost the morale of our athletes because currently, those competing outside the country are doing it on their own and the government only comes in to celebrate their success without helping them realise it,” he said.
