Lock eyes Junior champs

After a successful spell in the international circuit in recent months, teenage tennis star Courtney Lock has levelled his guns at the International Tennis Federation Junior Championships.

The ITF Junior Grade Four event resumes in Namibia on Sunday and will run till September 7. Lock has enjoyed successful spells in previous events, particularly in the Doubles, where he and his South African partner, Lloyd Harris, won the recent Southern/Central African Junior Circuit Doubles. He fell short in the Singles, bowing out in the semifinals.

In July, the Zimbabwean star and another South African partner, Bjorn Scheepbouwer, won the South African leg of the ITF Grade Four, just months after he partnered Kenya’s Ismael Changawa to gold at the ITF East African Circuit Two tournament in Kenya.

The 16-year-old, who will contest in the Under 18 category in Namibia, was confident of maintaining his impressive form that has seen him earmarked for a move to one of the leading institutions in the United States.

“I am feeling good and happy with my form. Playing in Zimbabwe during the just-ended tournament has given me a lot of confidence,” said the double-handed backhand specialist.
