Matema commits to Spurs

Ahead of the beginning of the new campaign, which kicks off at the end of this month, the former Zimbabwe Golden Boot winner was in buoyant mood saying he aimed to help the club gain promotion to the elite league.

“My goal is to help the team get promoted to the Absa Premier League. The guys are all confident we can achieve that aim after years coming close,” said Matema, who has been the side’s top scorer in recent season, but his side has fallen short of qualifying for the Promotional Playoffs. Following the team ending the campaign on a disappointing note again, there were doubts over the future of the Bulawayo-born player who still harbours ambitions of playing in the top flight.

After his contract expired at the end of June, the left-footed striker was unsure if he would stay amid speculation some top clubs from Zimbabwe were courting him.
