MDC-T supports activists

MDC-T has pledged to support four of its activists who are still behind bars following the death of Rebecca Mafikeni last week.

The party’s spokesman, Douglas Mwonzora, told The Zimbabwean that his party was concerned about the welfare of the four.

“We are not going to abandon them. We are with them in the struggle. We are concerned about their welfare and that of their families,” he said. Mwonzora would not give any details about what his party was going to do to make sure that the four activists would not suffer the same fate as Mafikeni.

The four who remain in custody are Tungamirai Madzokere, Yvonne Musarurwa, Last Maengahama and Simon Mapanzure. They were denied bail by High Court Judge, Justice Chinembiri Bhunu, at the end of 2012 as they were said to be flight risks. MDC-T said all the 29 are innocent and their arrest was meant to weaken party structures.
