Mushekwi in Belgium

Senior national team striker, Nyasha Mushekwi, has followed Warriors team-mate and defender Lincoln Zvasiya on a move to European topflight leagues. Zvasiya left Absa Premiership league and cup double champions Kaizer Chiefs on a season-long loan to Greek club Ofi Crete early this season.

Mushekwi, on the books of Pretoria-based Mamelodi Sundowns, officially left the South African shores at the weekend, again for a season-long loan, but to Belgian top-flight side, KV Oostende.

The Zimbabwean international spent some time on trial at the club, where apparently did enough to earn himself the short contract, which could open doors for a permanent move at the end of the season.

Sundowns spokesman, Kabelo Mosito, confirmed the deal early this week. “We would like to wish the player all the best abroad, as he has served Mamelodi Sundowns with dignity ever since joining in 2010 from Caps United,” said Mosito.

“An agreement between the two clubs might have taken longer than expected because all the parties involved had to first be satisfied with the terms of the deal. Therefore the time period for negotiations could never be determined. We are very pleased for the player that an agreement has been reached finally.”
