Simon Chimbetu’s widow dies

The widow of the late great Dendera music king Simon Chimbetu Angela has died. Angela who was admitted at Chitungwiza Central hospital last week died at around 5pm Saturday after a battle with pneumonia.

Simon’s son Sulumani announced the death of her stepmother at the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s General Assembly musical gala in Victoria Falls where he was performing.

“We are performing but we are mourning. I have just received word that my mother has just passed away,” announced Sulumani.

His uncle Alan who plays alongside Sulumani with the Orchestra Dendera Kings did not attend the musical gala as he was said to running around trying to sort out burial arrangements. Alan is Simon’s only surviving brother.

Angela had been admitted at the Chitungwiza Central Hospital since collapsing at the Harare Gardens on August 11 complaining of breathing problems and was later diagonised with pneumonia.

The social media is awash with condolence messages to the Chimbetu family. Burial arrangements are still to be announced.
