Tembo unfazed

Former Warriors defender Kaitano Tembo has refuted recent reports that he had lost his position as assistant coach at SuperSport United.

Tembo told The Zimbabwean this week that he had a dual role at the former Absa Premiership champions.

“There is no truth in all those reports and I remain one of the two assistant coaches at the club,” said Tembo.

“I also work with the club’s Under-19, which is our reserve side. I act as the link between the senior side and the reserves, in particular, a select pool of players that are on the verge of joining the senior team.”

Former Dynamos defender Tembo, who captained United until retiring in 2006, has been assistant coach since July last year.

He replaced the now late Thomas Madigage, who had left the Pretoria team to assume a similar position with the South African senior men’s national team.

Tembo remained upbeat about United’s chances of clinching a league and cup despite having crashed out of the MTN8 after a penalty shootout loss to Orlando Pirates at the weekend.

“We have built a capable side that plays exciting football and has shown the desire to fight for honours this season.”
