Tsvangirai will not take Zanu (PF)'s VP offer: Chamisa

MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, will not take the offer by Zanu (PF)'s stalwarts to make him Second Vice President in the party's government to be formed by President Robert Mugabe.

This was said by the MDC-T Organising Secretary, Nelson Chamisa, during his address to journalists after Tsvangirai met with provincial structures at a Gweru hotel today.

The statement follows reports that Mugabe's emissaries met with Tsvangirai last week and have been pestering him to take the VP offer in a bid to dissolve MDC-T.

It is understood that Zanu (PF) has realised that it will have a weaker presidential candidate in 2018 because Mugabe will not be able to stand at 94 years of age, hence the need to make sure MDC-T is destroyed before that time.

"We will not take the offer for Tsvangirai to be Mugabe's VP. There have been reports that we agreed to the offer but I can tell you the statements are pub talk.

"The MDC-T is still fighting for legitimacy of the July 31 election to be restored. We will not be moved from that position," said Chamisa.

He also indicated that during the meeting, it had been further unearthed that Zanu (PF) rigged the elections.

"The reports we got were shocking. How people were bussed, chiefs manipulated while multiple voting became the game style of Zanu (PF). The battle to ensure we correct those anomalies is still far from over," he said.
