After fleeing Zimbabwe for political and economic reasons, those in the diaspora have scoffed at Zanu (PF)’s calls for them to return.

Following recent reports that the party had called on them to return because “things had normalised” after its recent election victory, the expatriates who spoke to The Zimbabwean said it was a “big joke”.

They vowed not to return unless there was political change, adding that Zanu (PF) had no right to call them back.

“Zanu (PF) is just trying to legitimise its stolen elections by creating an impression that people are returning home, but we cannot be fooled,” said torture victim, Solomon Chikohwero, chairman of the Global Zimbabwe Forum.

Another victim of Zanu (PF) torture, Givemore Nhidza, argued none of the exiles, especially political victims, would feel safe in Zimbabwe with Zanu (PF) still in power.

“Some of us were tortured by people that we know are still roaming the streets and ready to commit the same crimes, so how can we return? It is still not safe for us,” said Nhidza, a national executive committee member of the Zimbabwe Youth Wing.
