Former Warriors goalkeeper, Ephraim Mazarura, who recently received his reverse clearance from Swazi champions Mbabane Swallows has blasted the side for the manner in which they blocked many of his intended moves.

Despite having saved the club with aplomb during his stay, going beyond his normal goalkeeping duties to score goals, Mazarura was denied a number of moves to the more lucrative Absa Premiership, where he was wanted by Ajax Cape Town and later Orlando Pirates.

When his contract finally expired, the former Black Rhinos shot-stopper landed at How Mine, where he played his debut game in a 1-0 league win over former champions, Highlanders at the weekend. “I am obviously happy to be back in the PSL and playing, after I had been side-lined for too long due to the initial refusal by the Swaziland side to release my reverse clearance,” said Mazarura.

“Someone arrogant and selfish was trying to hold back my career, but I am also grateful to ZIFA, who helped me get the clearance. I hope they will continue playing a pivotal role in our careers.” He was happy to be welcomed back into the PSL, where he first made a name for himself in the colours of army side Rhinos in the late 90s.

“It’s nice to be back with an ambitious side like How Mine, after spending four months without playing any professional match. I am also pleased that How Mine gave me an opportunity to be part of them and I will fight to help them finish in good position despite them being new boys in the league. It’s still too early for me to say too many things, but the club is very professional. They gave me an opportunity so I have to pay them back by making them a feared side in the PSL. I have been there and I am ready to move up with them.”

How Mine goalkeepers’ coach Themba Sibanda said Mazarura was still one of the best goalkeepers in the country. “He still has energy and skill as a top shot-stopper. I am pleased that the club gave him an opportunity. We are happy he got his reverse clearance because he is the future of the club as well because he brings vast experience,” said Sibanda.
