MDC activist punished

The MDC -T youth organising secretary for Mutsamvu area, Joseph Chikware, recently lost his crop when Zanu (PF) activists in the area blocked his irrigation canals.

The MDC -T Chimanimani district coordinator, Pardon Maguta, told The Zimbabwean that Trymore Jimu and Fungai Furau allegedly cut off Chikware’s home-made irrigation canal after the elections, which were controversially won by President Robert Mugabe and Zanu (PF).

“We received a call from our youth secretary in Mutsamvu ward whose irrigation canal was blocked by Zanu (PF) activists. His crop has already wilted because of the blockage. The activists are also calling for his banishment from the area because he was our election agent,” said Maguta.

He added that the activists visited Chikware and threatened him for supporting the MDC.

“On August 2, a group of Zanu (PF) supporters led by the trio also visited Chikware and started singing and beating drums as a way of intimidating him,” said Maguta.

When reached for comment, one of the accused activists Jimu denied the allegations.

“I do not know what you are talking about. These people can report wherever they want but the bottom line is we do not want sell outs in this area,” he said.
