The MDC-T will continue to put pressure on SADC to review its position on the disputed Zimbabwe’s election outcome, says the party’s spokesperson, Douglas Mwonzora.

“We will not ease pressure on SADC until democracy prevails in Zimbabwe, because irregularities that marred the electoral process were noted by all observers,” said Mwonzora whose party has dismissed as inaccurate a final report by SADC Observer Mission in Zimbabwe, headed by Bernard Membe.

“The Membe report that endorsed the July 31 election as free and credible is unacceptable,” said the MDC Secretary General, Tendai Biti. “We will write to the regional body seeking the nullification of the report, which we believe was made without consultation with member countries.”

The Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Election Support Network, Solomon Zwana, told The Zimbabwean that MDC-T should engage SADC directly to register its displeasure with the observer’s report.“Sustained MDC-T pressure on SADC will put Mugabe under pressure to implement agreed reforms before any future by-election,” said Ngwenya.
