Zimbabwe execs off to Scotland

The Zimbabwe Netball Association executive will later this month travel to Scotland for the International Netball Federation congress.

The congress, to focus on various issues including governance of the sport, will run concurrently with the World Youth Netball Championships in Glasgow from September 22-31. The tournament will see 20 countries fight for the top accolade. Africa will be represented by South Africa and Namibia.

The Zimbabwean delegation to the meeting will include ZINA president Letitia Chipandu, secretary general Barbara Rice, Melody Garikai technical director and John Banda, who is the director of coaching and training.

Chipandu said the congress would help them network with other netball associations from around the world. “We will also focus on empowering the girl child, who remains vulnerable in some communities. The congress will also focus on good governance in sport administration and this is one of the most important topics for administrators,” she said.

Garikai and Banda, who are both coaches, will be going for their final assessment.

“This is an important occasion for us as an association and we are hopeful that they will do well,” she added and highlighted that they failed to send a team to the World Youth Championships because of financial constraints.

“The World Youth Championships was open to every country, but lack of financial resources affected us because we had to fork out everything for ourselves and that proved a toll order.”
