Zvishavane MDC-T councilor fired

The MDC-T has fired one of its councillors in Zvishavane for going against a party directive on the selection of the Town Council Chairperson.

Jameson Tsuro, the MDC-T's Midlands South Acting Organising Secretary, told The Zimbabwean today that the party's provincial leadership which met yesterday had resolved to expel councillor Andrew Mare.

This brings to 11 the number of MDC-T councilors who have been fired by the party in three days.

On Friday the party expelled 10 of its Gweru councilors including the recently elected Mayor, Hamutendi Kombayi and his deputy, Artwell Matyorauta. They were found guilty of defying a party directive ordering them to vote for Charles Chikozho as Mayor and Kenneth Sithole as Deputy Mayor in council internal elections held on September 16 to fill the two posts. The councilors had instead voted for Kombayi and Matyorauta for the positions.

"In the latest case, Mare was found guilty of contesting for the position of Town Chairperson when the party had strongly warned him against doing that. It’s unfortunate that he lost during those elections held to fill the post and now he is also losing his membership in MDC-T," said Tsuro.
