“We are determined to grow this tournament into an international talent scouting project,” said Dube. “Our major goal is to expose our youngsters to international football standards but to do that, we need funding so we can invite foreign clubs to come and participate.

“This year’s tournament will be held in the last week of November and we expect it to be a success like the previous ones. Without properly nurtured youth, there can be no future for our football.”

Dube said he was impressed with the way the tournament had grown since he launched it two years ago.

“We have produced a number of Premier League players like Ozias Zibande and Knox Mtizwa, who played at the inaugural edition of this tournament. This shows that we are on the right direction and we appeal to the community to rally behind us to get more positive results,” he said.

Launched in 2011, the Ajax Hotspurs Youth Festival is contested by Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 age groups. The 2012 champions were Ajax Hotspurs Under-14s, Mpumelelo F.C Under-16s and F.M.H Academy Under-18s.
