Horse racing returns at Borrowdale

Horse racing has returned to Borrowdale race course with 12 runners nominated for the Zimbabwe National Army Charity Handicap to be run over 1 800 metres at Zimbabwe’s home of horse racing on November 3.

Considering that fields at the course have been dwindling with some of the races attracting six or seven horses the line up for the Charity Handicap is bigger giving punters a wider choice to draw their winning combinations from.

Kirk Swanson’s Zimbabwean bred Captain’s Tiger which missed some of the major races last year, leads the field which also includes two other Zimbabwean horses Pleasant Valley from the Sebastien D’ Aquino yard as well as Killa Man which is trained by Lisa Harris.

The race has attracted some of the most popular horses at Borrowdale including 2012 Republic Cup winner Choisir from D’ Aquino stable.

Apart from this Argentina bred horse D’Aquino also fields Royal Arrow from Australia and Double Date from South Africa.

Upcoming trainer Ghokan Terzi sends out three horses, all of them from South Africa, Fashion Police, Got a Hold on Me, as well as regular Borrowdale campaigner Super Trouper, formerly trained by Kenyan Nuno Nur.

Lisa Harries and Alyson Wright share two horses each with Harris also sending out candymancan on top of Killa Man. Alyson Wright has Orbit War and Richie Rich.

After taking a look at this 1 800 metre distance, the horses that stand out over such a long distance are Captain’s Tiger and Choisir as they have triumphed in such races before. But in horse racing anything can happen.
