PSL roundup

Reigning champions Dynamos’ Oscar Machapa has opened stiff debate on the probability of his making it to the finest 11 soccer stars of the season.

Since his arrival from South Africa’s Super Diski side Moroka Swallows, Machapa has been the toast of the DeMbare squad.

During his return to the 71st edition of the Harare Derby, where he scored the solitary goal that won the Glamour Boys the game against cross-town rivals, Caps United, Machapa also put himself in the running for the best goal of the season.

The goal was struck with power, flair and finesse, after the former Caps star had rounded-off his marker on the right flank and cut into the danger zone before he unleashed a rasping shot with his left foot, which whistled to the far left corner of the post, leaving Makepekepe’s goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube clutching thin air.

Since July when Machapa made the move to DeMbare, he has maintained his terrific form and is yet to be cautioned by a referee in a match. Over the weekend he was also voted Man of the Match, after he helped Dembare to a 1-0 victory against troubled Betbridge-based side Tripple B in the quarter finals of the Mdada Diamonds Cup.

With nine games left in the season, Highlanders’ Milton Ncube and Masimba Mambare are also tipped to make it into the calendar, as are Caps United’s Hardlife Zvirekwi, Monomotapa’s Ronald Chitiyo and Silas Songani and Dembare’s Partson Jaure.

FC Platinum’s Charles Sibanda, who struggled with his game last season, is also in contention.
