What do the people say?

More and more Zimbabweans, both at home and all over the world, are using social media to communicate. The Zimbabwean is committed to helping Zimbabweans everywhere to claim and access their right to give and receive information. So every week we stimulate debate on a number of issues affecting us. These are your responses in this week’s issue:

Clémence Machadu

How can we change our traditional way of doing politics so that we can progress?

Simply alter your priorities. #development- @SirGomby

So true and so simple, nicely put @SirGomby – @Zim_Thinking

We need to promote political pluralism in Zimbabwe, that will help pave the way for change – @TapiwaMunjoma

I totally agree with Vince, the political structures and even processes are there to protect and serve the interests of the very greed politicians who want to either continue staying in power or create a safe haven for their corruptly amassed wealth -Clémence Machadu

Is it time for those in the diaspora to come home and build our nation? If not now, then when?

I have come across many who are willing to come home and help rebuild the country. The problem we Zimbabwe is that there is no clear policy to lure them back like what other countries do,for example,a policy like, diaspora returning home will have duty free – Duran Rapozo

I dont think that we need to point fingers to each other because nothing will be solved only to continue building our country because even us who are out of Zimbabwe we know very well that no matter what home is the best as we are using our talents out here we still send foreign currency back home instead of blaming each of unsolvable country problems so better do what is good and safe you brothers and sisters – Faniso Khoza

Come to power cuts and water shortages? – Angela Adams Wagoneka

The same reasons that compelled them to leave the country are still present, so why should they come back home? Vanodzoka kuzoyanwa zamhu ripi? Unemployment is still 85 percent. The government has been freezing recruitment in the public service up to now.- Clémence Machadu

Why did people run away in the first place? What tangible changes have been made so far that guarantees that we are going in the right direction? How many youthful ministers have been drafted into key ministries? We cant risk our jobs for the sake of just verbal promises. – Prosper Sibanda

Nd also u must discover how many Zimbabweans are in South Africa cryng and begging for food some are blind its so painful to see somone from your country suffering in another coutry so plz we as Zimbabweans need a big change. – Mbonisi Phakathi

Why do you want them back if you never gave them chance to vote?

That country is a shame. – Obert Baloyi

U can’t turn away from a monster and then expect the same to go back when the same monster is still in the same place it was. It doesn’t make sense. – Prosper Sibanda

Kkkk Come on get real, before we all leave.- Aleck Ngolo

I’m in Zim, l’m not going anywhere except for visits – @ChichyMoyo

Are you a Zimbabwean living in the diaspora – please tell us why you do not live at home?

It’s very expensive living in Zim. Service delivery is way below par to be kind- @JohnDoeZW

Coz hakuna dhiri – @TapiwaMunjoma

The articles says all home is best but we can’t be home & hungry. Most of us are highly qualified but there are no Jobs in Zim let alone water. Because of the situation in Zim I fear we have a generation lost to madhiri. – @glentd

After going back home for 12months I found work opportunities to be non existent or very poorly paid! #wanttogoback- @Staceythezim

Parents had to go and look for better employment opportunities snd we had to go- @figosekas

Well, I thought it would be such fun to be called a ‘Zimbabwean Living in the Diaspora’. Jury still out on that!! -@itayiviriri

Zim sucks guys. The roads the environment is just Filthy.- @wessie200

I’m going back into my country, – @mr_moyo_sir

I left many moons ago!!- @Xreje

Please tell me more about your return. I’m doing research on Zims who go back. – @misteroram

Is the MDC-T about to split again?

This whole thing is nothing but nonsense, actually if MDC had never existed, zim would hve been a better place they have lost a purpose and a cause , time to re-group and rebrand -@SirGomby

This is really bad as they have to prepare for the next elections coz I can feel the pressure on this GVT after 5 years- @JasperPauros

Not easy to put a pulse on #Zim politics both MDC’s future relevance is in uniting- @ResurrectZim

Who will be the next best MDC-T candidate?

I think as of now it is safe to say Tsvangirai is the MDC.if he is to be replaced then MDC is gone and thats what ZANU PF wants becoz they know that in 2018 their trump card Bob will not be there and they dont have anyone now to compete against Morgan. – Tafara Chipato

I think if it can be somone else which is not Tsvangirai can be the real movement change.- Mbonisi Phakathi

“Kukura musoro chete” – Grace Chikwenya Mai Etame

Will SADC listen to Tsvangirai’s evidence of #Zimelection rigging this time?

No SADC washed off off on Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe has been pain in their neck who dare want to touch it again – @farayimate

I support MDC but I ve realised that the leader is a big fool he will never win unless if they can put somebody else – Mbonisi Phakathi

Waste of time – Duran Rapozo

SADC is just a toothless organisation/dog. Only a few leaders use their heads. I will forever respect Ian Khama! I do not think they will listen. – Clemence Risenga Mavasa

For what,Thats nonsense,its juss a nightmare he won’t rule that Country,but he’ll remain a puppet…. – Nathan Goto

No, they probably won’t listen, but that doesn’t mean you give up trying to be heard. – Bee Mundy-Castle

You don’t go to court to win only, but also to get your side heard – GeneYellz Vadzimba

SADC just another toothless league of failed natons. – Honest Chademana

MDC lacks think tanks&strategists this is a clear waste of time&resources, this should have been done in the heat of the moment.Their struggle should take another form to put pressure on Mugabe rule. -Bee Tee

Ndebele vs Shona: A nation divided are we that divided or is the media trying to divide us?

I just wonder. Is there any evidence besides facebook group coz people use abuse speech in non-tribal groups? it’s hard to grab the future when you engrossed in the past. I hope youth realise – @JayPee_55

Sadly YES We are very divided. take it from non cyber platforms generally Zimbos find it hard to agree Mash vs Mat. Speaking a language doesn’t make peace. Our Prez speaks English n hated Englishman – @glentd

Interesting question, & why I found the article interesting. I think maybe it’s best if both Ndebele and Shona are made compulsory at school. Brigde the gap -@Ay_Brown

It’s also up to individuals. we need to look past that tribal barrier! – @djchelseabarce

The only difference betwn me and a ndebele guy is language unless we dig our history. Unlike black n white. – @JayPee_55

A technical fault? Peter Blair Whitfield went to the trouble of contacting ZEC personally with a request for a digital copy of the Zimbabwe Voters Roll. He was told that the Chairperson was on leave.

No Kennedy I disagree comrade, Whether ZEC is ZANU PF or Lucifer is immaterial as the voter’s roll isn’t theirs!!! We must just keep on banging their door until they release it as silence will be golden to such idiots!!!! – Menzi Dakeni

ZEC stupidity and idiocy will not derail the train of change!! Down with this compromised institution!!! You are a great disappointment you ZEC fools and idiots!!!! – Menzi Dakeni

A waste of time ZEC is Zanu (PF). – Kennedy Mafika

Is Food Aid helping or hurting Zimbabwe?

Food aid is not actually helping the intended beneficiaries. It is rather helping intermediate beneficiaries. We should learn to empower farmers to optimize from agricultural production and foster post harvest programmes earmarked at preserving food. I have seen cabbages and tomatoes rotting in the countryside, but that is food that can be preserved to ensure food security. Food aid in Zimbabwe tend to be politicised and food is distributed along partisan lines. – Clémence Machadu

Maybe they need some container gardening workshops. Backyard farming, and seed sharing libraries. – Avanza Vaile

Food aid should be used only in emergencies. I agree with Avanza that people need training in growing their own food even in small spaces. – Eleanor Manske

I used to work in Mazvihwa where there were a lot of NGOs distributing food aid. What most beneficiaries ended up doing was to neglect their fields and some stopped farming completely because of the free food. – Brighton Majoni

Most of the zimbabweans needs food aid even the so called working class who are earning slave wages. – Oliver Madyiwa

People can work and want to pleasr their families but our hands are tied. Open industrie muone zvinoita vanhu. Hakuna munhu asingade kushandira vana vake anoda kuchengeterwa vana nema donor. Wat legacy will u live behind. We dont want to promote a culture of loo Oliver Madyiwa

i dont think so. Food aid comes after a strong assesment on whether e pple to be assisted are lazy or that even if they wld want to wek but there z nothing u can do to bring food on yo own on yo table. I dont think that aiders just come n say u dont have Oliver Madyiwa

Food aid hardly comes after much assessment of the recipients’ needs. It is more to do with getting rid of agriculture surplus for the food aid donor. It has been shown to interfere with local markets. I only support food aid in emergencies. Eleanor Manske
