Zambia railways to transport fertilisers from Beira

Zambia Railways on Thursday will begin transporting fertilisers from the central Mozambican port of Beira to the Zimbabwean city of Mutare. This is the resumption of a service halted in the 1980’s.

The Machipanda railroad links Beira to Zimbabwe along a 317-kilometre track.

A source in Mozambique’s publicly owned port and rail company, CFM, revealed that 82 wagons are already at the port ready to form three trains.

Representatives of Zambia Railways and National Railways of Zimbabwe will witness a ceremony in Beira to mark the return of the service.
