Barbourfields to host final

The Mbada Diamonds Cup final will be played at Bulawayo’s Babourfields Stadium, the sponsors have revealed.

This follows How Mine’s shock 4-2 penalty shootout win over Caps United which came after Highlanders had also beaten Harare City 5-3 on post match penalties a day earlier.

Even if Caps United had won, a decision had already been made to have the final played at Babourfields Stadium. Mbada Diamonds corporate services executive George Manyaya said since their plan was to spread the game to all the four parts of the country the final would be held in Bulawayo.

For the first time since the tournament was launched, the Mbada Diamonds Cup will have new winners. Dynamos have won the tournament for the past two years but the popular Harare side were eliminated early this year after losing to How Mine.

The winners of the Mbada Diamonds Cup will pocket $130 000 and a place in the Caf Champions League. On top of the prize money, they will also receive an additional $100 000 to cater for their participation in the Pan African tournament.

All in all the Mbada Daimonds Cup is sponsored to the tune of $1 million. The losing semi finalists Caps United and Harare City will each receive $45 000.
