Champions Fillies field drastically reduced

The field for Sunday’s Champion Fillies Stakes has been drastically reduced following the final acceptances that have seen four horses fall by the wayside.

Instead of the initial 11 horse nominations, the 1 600 metre contest will now have a reduced field of seven horses after trainer Army Bronkhorst’ Centre Brook, Pretty Senorita and Happy Gets lucky were scratched from the line up.

This means instead of six horses in the race Brookhorst will now have three but will still remain the trainer with the highest number of entrants in the contest. Brookhorst still sends out Bo Jally, Equina, and Cheating Heart.

Cheating Heart, one of the only two Zimbabwean horses in the race has been drawn wide at seven but has weight advantage with 53 Kgs. The horse will be ridden by Zimbabwe National Army Race winner Brendan McNaughton who turned 23 years this month.

Also now missing from the race that is reserved for female horses only will be Sebastien D’ Aquino’s Des Moines. This leaves A’quino with only one contestant Double Date which will be ridden by Franchois Herholdt.

The rest of the field sees Ghokan Terzi retaining her two horses Armstrong Girl and the second of the Zimbabwean entrants Solar Impulse which will have Lance Pagel on the saddle.

Kirk Swanson also still fields Colin Bird’ Mother Eyes who has been super in races between 1 800 and 2 000 but will have to have early speed for the shorter 1 600 metre contest.

All the horses except Cheating Heart are carrying 60 kgs.
