“Minister Shamu will be the campaign manager and I need to rope in five more ministers in seeking re-election. The elections will be crucial for me because I need to be re-elected so that I leave a legacy in our football,” said Dube.

Though Dube triumphed in the last elections, taking the post amid accusations of vote-buying, it will be a different ground next year. For the first time since 1996, there will be a new constitution that creates an electoral code to set benchmarks for the electoral committee, the candidates, voting procedures and the general principles to be followed in the event of a dispute.

For the first time, all the 16 PSL clubs will have voting rights, rather than just six. There is also now a limit of two terms of four years each for a ZIFA president and the board.
