Dembare seek League sponsor

Cash-strapped Dynamos are seeking a sponsor to bankroll their 2014 Caf Champions League campaign, following an agreement with their principal sponsor, BancABC, for the team to find another partner.

Club secretary, Webster Chikengezha, said they had struck a deal with BancABC, who agreed to confine themselves to sponsoring the team in the domestic league only.

“We need another sponsor for the Caf campaign. We are going out to find that sponsor and we hope things will work out in our favour,” said Chikengezha.

Dynamos, along with Mbada Diamonds Cup finalists, How Mine, have been registered to represent Zimbabwe in African football showcase, with the miners set for the Confederations Cup. They need around $600,000 to enable them to participate without any financial problems.

The team was once the best in the region, reaching the final of the Champions League in 1998, the semi-finals 10 years later and the mini league stage on a number of occasions. But they are now a pale shadow of that once-great force.

Dynamos have failed to reach the mini league stage in the past three years – losing Zimbabwe one of their two slots in both the African club competitions.

The club’s coach Kalisto Pasuwa is reported to be shopping for new players to beef up his squad for the African competition in order to improve results.
