On his Facebook page, Sikhala said he escaped with minor injuries but his children and wife are in a critical condition after his car overturned three times in an accident which occurred this morning, 2km from Nyika growth point.
Said the leader of the MDC-99, which recently merged with the newly formed, Lovemore Madhuku led, National Constitutional Assembly: “All my eight kids who were with me and my wife are seriously injured. They were rushed to Silveira Mission hospital in Bikita.”
Sikhala revealed that the accident was caused by faulty brakes which failed to function while the car approached ‘the dangerous Nyika slope’.
“The car breaks failed and I lost control of the vehicle forcing it to plunge down and roll three times,” said Sikhala, who revealed that he was on his way to hospital to establish his children and wife's condition.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police revealed that it recorded 738 road traffic accidents, 64 deaths while 311 people were injured in the various accidents countrywide since the beginning of the festive season on December, 15.
Last year, 123 people died and 599 were injured in 793 recorded accidents, signifying a decline in the number of people who have perished in road accidents.
