On January 24, Harare magistrate, Hosea Mujaya, is expected to deliver judgement in a case in which Gumbura is facing nine counts of raping six female members of his church.

Today, Gumbura’s lawyer, Rekayi Maphosa, made a bail application at the High Court on behalf of her client on the pending charge.

According to the State outline, the complainant in the latest case is a 26 year old woman who is currently residing in South Africa.

It is the State’s case that the woman started staying at Gumbura’s house in 2009, an arrangement that was agreed to by the pastor and the woman’s parents.

Gumbura, according to the State papers, was responsible for the woman’s school fees and general upkeep.

The State alleges that in 2009, one Tendai Ganyani called the woman to Gumbura’s office where the Independent End Time Message founder was and when she arrived, Ganyani went out and locked the door from outside.

After this, Gumbura is alleged to have demanded sex from the woman and she refused. Gumbura is alleged to have removed his clothes, grabbed the woman and forcibly removed her clothes after which he pushed her onto the floor.

He is alleged to have raped the woman and threatened to curse her if she reported the matter to anyone.

After raping the woman, Gumbura is alleged to have called Ganyani who came to open the office door.

Gumbura’s rape victim failed to report the case to the police for fear of being cursed and only did so on March 18 last year after she had left the church.
