BancABC boost for Chapungu FC

Premiership new boys Chapungu FC have received a major boost for their campaign in top flight football following a pledge by regional banking institution BancABC to bankroll them.

BancABC are at present the official sponsor of champions Dynamos and Bulawayo giants Highlanders, who have in the past been bankrolled to the tune of about $300,000 every season.

The airmen return to PSL action after six years of battling it out in the unfashionable ZIFA Central Region Division one. They finally got promotion last season after a fine run in which they lost only one game.

Desmond Ali, the managing director of BancEasy, a subsidiary of BancABC, confirmed that the bank would sponsor the John Nyikadzino coached side. “We are still finalizing the deal but it is almost done,” said Ali. He could not be drawn into revealing details of the package. However, BancABC’s demand on teams it sponsors is that its players and technical team don jerseys and sports regalia which carry the bank’s logo in front. In return, the bank usually foots expenses like salaries for players and the technical team, training kits, travelling bags and golf t-shirts. The bank also pays for camping and traveling expenses on away fixtures. Meanwhile, coach Nyikadzino whose charges are already in pre-season camp preparing for the real action which kick-starts on March 1, has indicated he will retain all of the players he had in D1.

“Our intention will be to make sure we remain in PSL after the season and I think I have effective players to that regard. Accordingly, we will not be busy on the market because we have a competitive squad already,” he said.
