Conmen ripping off jobseekers

In a country where unemployment is more than 70 per cent, naive jobseekers are suffering at the hands of unscrupulous people who are ripping them off with fake job promises.

ZESA has recently had to issue a disclaimer advising members of the public that criminals masquerading as ZESA employees are conning jobseekers into depositing money through EcoCash to secure employment at the power utility.

The Local Authorities Pension Fund (LAPF) has also issued a similar notice, after a ‘Mr Katsande’ pretended to be an employee of the fund authorised to offer employment.

The scam usually involves an advert in the press with an offer to help people find work. The desperate jobseekers are then asked to pay a fee.
