Equina sends punters smiling

Champions Fillies winner Equina has seen punters smiling after offering them $3.10 for every dollar bet when winning the 1,600 metre Pinnacle Plate 105, her second major title of the season at Borrowadle race course so far.

The three-year-old filly from the Amy Bronkhorst stable was the highest paying of the top four placed horses as she came home ahead of Macchiato, Captain’s Tiger, and Orbit War. Equina won the race by 0,25 lengths after finishing the race in 1 minute, 37,38 seconds.

Macchiato was offering $1.70, Captain’s Tiger $2.80 while Orbit War was at $2.00. Equina, owned by PJ Moor, benefitted greatly from the lightweight of 47kgs compared to the rest of the pack which had 52kgs or above.

This is her second major title of the season after winning the Champions Fillies Stakes early in the season ahead of Douba Date, Bo Jally and Mother’s Eyes. The disappointment of the race was the heavily favoured Argentina bred Ginepri which has just returned to racing at Borrowdale. Sebastien D’Aquino’s five-year-old gelding, who won the OK Grand Challenge in 2013 and finished second in the Castle Tankard, could only manage a disappointing seventh place in a 10 field race.

Whole Kabodle was in fifth place followed by Pleasant Valley while Candymancan anchored the race just behind Choisir and Ritchie Rich. Racing will resume at Borrowdale on February 8.
