Giant yellow duck explodes… again

A giant inflatable yellow duck has exploded for a second time while on display in Taiwan.

The 18-metre-tall duck burst and deflated into a floating yellow disc, just hours before it was expected to attract a big crowd to count down the new year, reports IOL News.

The duck – a bath toy replica created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman – had only been on show for 11 days in Keelung. Organiser Huang Jing-tai said, “We want to apologise to fans of the yellow rubber duck… the weather is fine today and we haven’t found the cause of the problem. We will carefully examine the duck to determine the cause.”

The Central News Agency cited an eyewitness as saying eagles may have popped the duck by scratched it with their claws.

It’s the second time that a giant inflatable duck has burst in Taiwan.

Last month, a duck on display in Taoyuan deflated after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake triggered a power outage that caused an air pump to stop working.
