Resolution worries

Dear Aunty Lisa

Compliments of the New Year. I have penned down my 2014 resolutions but I am worried I may not achieve them by December. I have done that for the past two year and I always carry some of them forward.

Procrastination is one of my biggest weaknesses and I don’t want to find myself writing the same resolutions for 2015, please help me on how best I can map the way forward? – Langton F.M

Dear Langton F.M

That is a common weakness with a lot of people. People set targets for themselves at the beginning of the year and relax until the last three months of the year. With the New Year’s day came a brand new year, another 365 days and a fresh 12months to achieve something in your life and add value to it. One thing you need to know is that days move faster than we think, December looks very far ahead but hours turn into a day, days into a week and weeks into months. January is almost over, that is how fast they get.

Listing your resolutions is a starting point to success. But smaller targets are more achievable so you may find it helpful to break your resolutions into four sections and list them in phases. Give yourself a target for each month, rather than for the whole year. And then break the year into quarters and set targets for each quarter. Make your targets achievable – don’t list impossible dreams.

Yes you may have a big vision or a big target, but you need to break it down into smaller steps to make it achievable. There is a tendency of us as Africans not valuing time. Many people do not honour time, especially when meeting others for appointments. Let 2014 be the year of doing things on time, value your time and others. Plan your day and follow that blueprint, you will never go wrong. – Aunty Lisa
