State fails to come up with trial date for DJ Munya

The State today failed to come up with a trial date for Star FM Diskey Jockey, Munyaradzi Mlimo, who is facing murder charges, in a development that has seen the radio personality and his co-accused having their bail conditions relaxed.

Mlimo, who was arrested in May last year is being charged jointly with Taurai Janhi and Mohamed Matare.

It is the State’s case that Mlimo instructed Janhi and Matare to abduct and murder Tichaona Magorimbo whom he suspected of having an affair with his wife.

However the State, led by Sharon Mashavire, highlighted before Magistrate Donald Ndirowei today that they were seeking a postponement of the case to March 3 as they are yet to decide on a trial date.

This prompted Mlimo’s defence counsel to seek a relaxation of the bail conditions saying the accused had been placed on remand for a long period and the development was negatively affecting their daily lives.

Magistrate Ndirowei granted the application by the defence counsel which will see Mlimo and his two co-accused reporting once every month to the police.

Initially, the trio were reporting once every Friday to the police after having been granted bail in June by the High Court.

Magistrate Ndirowei granted an application by the defence for the release of a passport to the second accused person, Janhi, who the court was told relied on cross border trading and had been seriously affected after his travel document was handed over to the courts as part of his bail conditions.
