Guys, Mangoma is simply looking at facts on the ground, not public relations sentiments from interested parties. He raised important points that we should also seriously consider. For example, why is GF’s ethanol going for about a dollar when its half that price elsewhere? So much for the biggest ethanol producing plant in Africa, that should be accruing enormous economies of scale. He also questioned the awkward ownership structure of the project, Yes we know govt has partnered with Billy, but we are not told how much Billy owns and how much our good govt owns. The issue of 120MW to me is ambitious and remains to be seen. Of the 18MW currently being produced, we know that only 6MW makes it to the national grid, whereas the rest goes back to propel the plant. Don’t be confused by figures. We just cannot be subjected to mandatory purchase of a commodity whose price is imposed on us, it defies the consumer’s universal right to choose. – Clémence Machadu
