Chibuwe moves down South

Zimbabwe national Under-20 rugby team player, Ngoni Chibuwe has joined the renowned Sharks Academy in Durban, South Africa. Chibuwe, from Dangamvura suburb, won the hearts and minds of the South African academy’s scouts during a trial stint south of the Limpopo in August last year.

The 19-year-old, who is still waiting his results after he recently completed his Upper Sixth studies at Hillcrest College in Mutare, where he also captained the school’s first team last year, is expected to leave the country soon. In an interview last week Chibuwe said: “Joining the academy is a great honour to me. I hope to make good use of the opportunity as I am looking forward to playing professional rugby. I am confident that I will be able to make an impact and make good use of the opportunity.”

In his two-year stay at Sharks, the youngster will not only pursue the sport he loves with so much passion, but also academic studies and is expected to undertake a marketing degree.

He will also be active in club rugby after securing a place in Harlequins club. He impressed the scouts after a sterling performance in last year’s Cottco Rugby Festival in Harare.
