ZESA supervisor electrocuted

A senior ZESA supervisor was electrocuted when his team attempted to repair a fallen pole supporting live electric cables at a farm near Nyazura.

Edson Jeche (58) of Vengere township and his team were responding to an electric fault in the area when they discovered the fallen electric pole at Middlespot Farm.

The wooden pole supported live cables transmitting an electric charge of 33kV.

The acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxon Chishiri, confirmed the incident and said investigations were still in progress, adding that ZESA would hold its own inquest.

“In such cases, ZESA is mandated to hold a separate inquest into the death and their report will be combined with ours to come up with the final verdict,” said Chananda.

Jeche is thought to have instructed three members of his team, Francis Kuwana, Tafadzwa Govha and Wonder Mashanga, to hold down the pole as he attempted to earth the electric cables. The three failed to hold the pole and it sprang back. The live electric cables hit Jeche. He was rushed to Makuma Medical Centre in Rusape, but died that afternoon.
