Belgians want to keep Mushekwi

Zimbabwean international striker Nyasha Mushekwi could make a permanent move to top Belgian club, KV Oostende. He moved to the Jupiler League side at the beginning of the current season after being released on a season-long loan from South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.

The former senior national team hitman has only scored twice in 16 league starts and is out injured for the rest of the season, but reports are that he could have made enough impact to land himself a permanent move to the Belgian mid-table side.

Talks were said to be in progress between Oostende officials and their Sundowns counterparts early this week. Mushekwi’s loan deal with the club comes to an end in June, but the knee injury he sustained earlier in the season has taken him out of action for the rest of that agreed stay.

“Nyasha will not be playing again this season but this has not affected the discussions between the two teams. He has had an operation on his knee, so he cannot play anymore this season,” said Mushekwi’s agent, Ralph Nkomo. “It is really up to Sundowns and Oostende to agree. We will have to wait for the outcome of the talks.” Former South African champions, Orlando Pirates, expressed interest in the Zimbabwean international during the January transfer window, but talks between them and the Brazilians collapsed, as Sundowns would not release him to another South African club.
