Mabvuku win MAFLICG

Mabvuku High school emerged 2014 champions of the MAFLICG Mazowe chess festival, played at Mazowe High School recently. They won allfive games to successfully wrestle the title from defending champions Goromonzi High School.

The eventual winners beat tough opposition that included Mazowe High and Glen Norah Knights, in a star-studded field that had 44 teams in the boys section. They shocked Glen Norah Knights 2,5-1,5 in the 5th and final round.

Mabvuku’s Jemba Jemusse had his stiffest competition of the day against his Mabvuku opponent, Munyaradzi Thom on board one and their game had to be finished in blitz, where Thom eventually lost.

It was quite an achievement for Mabvuku to beat Glen Norah Knights who had earlier on overcome tournament favourites Goromonzi 3-1.

St.Georges College finished second with 4,5 points. Goromonzi and Mazowe A teams were tied on third position, but the former clinched third spot on higher board points.
