Radio Dialogue fined

Bulawayo- based community radio initiative Radio Dialogue was on 25 March 2014 convicted of possession of radio sets without listeners’ licences.

The production manager, Zenzele Ndebele, admitted before Bulawayo magistrate Crispen Mberewere, that it possessed the donated radios in question.

Ndebele was arrested in March last year on allegations of possessing smuggled radios in contravention of the Customs and Exercise Act resulting in 180 radio receivers being confiscated by the state.

Mberewere convicted him for possessing the receivers without valid Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) listeners’ licences in contravention of Section 38 of the Broadcasting Services Act and fined the organisation $100.
