Remembering Rwanda
This week Rwanda commemorates the 1994 genocide, in which approximately 800,000 Rwandans lost their lives. It is commendable that Rwanda’s government does not pretend that the massacres did not happen. Back home, over 20,000 civilians were slaughtered by government security forces. Twenty seven years post Gukurahundi, there exists no commemoration and survivors have received no apology.
