According to the results of the election held yesterday, Zanu (PF)’s candidate Charles Simbi polled 556 votes while Richard Ndlovu of the National Constitutional Assembly managed 65 votes. Fortunate Chiokoyo of MDC-T got 486 votes.
Last month MDC-T’s Mkoba MP Amos Chibaya brought to a press conference a voters’ roll that was to be used in the election which contained names of deceased people and while other individuals appeared more than once on the roll.
In an interview with The Zimbabwean today, Chibaya dismissed the by-election results and said Zanu (PF) had rigged the polls as he indicated last month.
“The whole election process was shocking. You could see people from Shurugwi and others from different wards being allowed to vote. The process was full of irregularities. We also realised that the voters’ roll which we were given as a party by ZEC (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) is not the one which was used yesterday.
The legislator also said that another major setback faced by his party was the use of voter registration slips.
He said MDC-T’s applied to the High Court to ban their use as proof of registration as voters but the appeal was dismissed.
