10 horses line up for Zimbabwe Oaks

The 2,000-metre Zimbabwe Oaks race takes centre stage this Sunday, with 10 horses lined up for the $9,000 stakes.

Trainer Cornie Spice contributes four of the horses on the field in his first campaign at Borrowdale this season.

He sends out Emerald Oz, Felan, Olympic Goal, and Sin Latigo, all from South Africa, in a field that has only two Zimbabwean-bred horses – Princess Kate from the Ghokan Terzi yard and Demitasse, trained by champion trainer Lisa Harris.

Leading trainer Kirk Swanson has not declared any horse for this race, apparently waiting for the $40,000 OK Grand Challenge on June 7. Harris also fields Casey’s Dance, which has failed to make an impression at Borrowdale in the past and was not among the top finishers in the Fillies Champions Stakes that drew the best of the female horses on offer.

The trainers are still to declare their jockeys for the field, but have up to Friday to do that.
