All set for Gweru grand prix

All is set for the second Grand Prix to be held in Gweru from this weekend. All roads will be leading to the city of Progress this weekend as the chess pundits battle on the checked board. IM Makoto is likely to travel from Joburg South Africa for this event.

This is one of the Zimbabwe Chess Federation's objectives of bringing the game to the people by spreading it to all the corners of the country. mElisha Chimbamu, Bismarck Bhobhojani, Spencer Masango and Mutare Grand Prix winner Heath Darare will also be taking part in this tourney.

Meanwhile on the schools calendar Harare Schools Chess Association's schools chess league will be back to life on Saturday at Dominican Convent. Games start at 8 am. Mabvuku High school will be battling it out against Mufakose 2 High School and St.Ignatius College the defending champions.

In games played last week Mabvuku narrowly edged Goromonzi 3,5-2,5 in a tightly contested fixture. Oriel Boys humbled ZRP Boarding 6 nil. ZRP then fought back and defeated Peterhouse 5-1 in a mid-week fixture played during the weekend.
