After being recently short-listed for the finalists of the Gauteng Sports Awards, the ever-green primary school teacher led his Troyeville team to a gold medal at the American International School of Johannesburg tournament, held here last weekend.

The tournament drew participation from teams from as far as Mozambique, Swaziland and South Africa, who all failed to reach the semi-finals. "That was my first trophy of the year of such magnitude and I can boldly say I am delighted with the outcome," said a jovial Moyo.

"It was an excellent day for me because I got the gold medal. I won gold and trophy with the boys, while the girls got silver. They were both in the Under-14 category. This is an annual event and my boys were defending it for the third time on the trot. My girls were booted out in the semi-finals in the past."

Moyo was recently nominated among the finalists for the Gauteng Sports Awards, under the coach of the year category. The awards ceremony will be held on June 7, at VodaWorld in Midrand. Last year, Moyo won 16 gold medals, four silver medals and a bronze medal from district level to international level.

Three months ago, he scooped the 2014 School Sport Awards’ Coach of the Year category, while his Under-13 boys' team was chosen as the most promising team.
