The Brazilians, who made 13 signings at the start of the season, lifted the crown when they dispatched cross-town rivals SuperSport United 3-0 in the final game, edging out Kaizer Chiefs with two points.
Billiat, the livewire winger who has kept the Absa Premiership fans spellbound with his sublime displays for two seasons now, said his team was the most organised in the league. He said the triumph was the fulfilment of a target he set when he joined them from Ajax Cape Town at the beginning of this season.
“The team has a lot of talent and with that, it was not difficult for us to triumph over the otherwise tough competition we faced,” said the winger.
He said he was still ecstatic that he managed to win the league in his debut season with the Pretoria-based outfit, which had some near misses in a number of years, and said all that was the result of hard work, determination and discipline.
“It is pity I didn’t contribute a lot towards the last games of the club. I believe I would have added value and flair to the team if I was not injured, but that does not mean those who hung on till the end did not do it well. I’m a team player who does not believe in winning individual awards, especially when the team doesn’t win anything,” he said.
He banged in four goals for the side, but believes that was not enough for him. “I believe this is the beginning of greater things in my career and I want to win many trophies with this club in the coming seasons,” he said.
Other Zimbabweans at Sundowns are team manager, Peter Ndlovu, veteran midfielder Esrom Nyandoro and Cuthbert Malajila.
